Initially, I thought you meant this since I didn’t know which right you were talking about. This picture displays the rank, which was a black collar tab (Schütze).

Then I decided to look up Generation War, and immediately knew what you meant:

Scene from Generation War

This was not an error. This officer was in allegiance with the RSHO (Reich Security Head Office) and/or SD (Sicherheitsdienst, Security Service) of the SS. This officer was not in the Einsatzgruppen; however, the Einsatzgruppen was under the RSHO and also had the blank collar tab:

Personnel of those services did not wear the sig runes we’re used to seeing.

Adolf Eichmann was with the RSHO, and also did not wear the sig rune collar tab:

Furthermore; if you look at other films and real pictures, you’ll notice that some soldiers did not wear an SS collar tab.

In a film about Anne Frank, a security service member finds them:

When I was younger, I used to think they didn’t wear the SS collar tab because the production team censored it on TV. But that’s not the case.

This officer (as pictured above) was under the RSHO or with the Gestapo which accurately adds on to the film, as RSHO and Gestapo personnel would typically order arrests against Jews hiding in attics (if caught).

So no, it was not an error. It was like this intentionally.
